Let Us Be Thankful In Many Ways

Garden Meditation, A Poem by Reverend Max Coots (1927-2009):

Let us give thanks...

For generous friends... with hearts as big as hubbards and smiles as bright as their blossoms;

For feisty friends as tart as apples;

For continuous friends, who, like scallions and cucumbers, keep reminding us we had them;

For crotchety friends, as sour as rhubarb and as indestructible:

For handsome friends, who are as gorgeous as eggplants and as elegant as a row of corn -- and the others -- as plain as potatoes, and so good for you.

For friends as unpretentious as cabbages, as subtle as summer squash, as persistent as parsley, as delightful as dill, as endless as zucchini, and who -- like parsnips -- can be counted on to see you through the long winter;

For old friends, nodding like sunflowers in the evening-time, and young friends coming on as fast as radishes;

For loving friends, who wind around as like tendrils, and hold us despite our blights, wilts, and witherings;

And finally, for those friends now gone, like gardens past, that have been harvested - but who fed us in their times that we might have life thereafter;

For all these we give thanks.

I love this! So true and so well put. So many wonderful things in life can be illustrated from nature. I'm just happy that I can relate. LOL

Hi Goatldi :) Such a wonderful post. It's very touching. I always prefer the animal kind than the human kind lol... ;) I hope all is well with you!

Thanks ladies. I too find myself preferring the company of animal and plant kingdoms on more and more occasions.
My youngest sister asked if me recently "does not wanting to deal with people become more prevalent as one ages?"
My reply is that I believe we find with age our tolerance with actions of stupidity, preoccupation with self and lack of being able to be aware of those outside your personal space are what amazes me.

Seems so many think the world revolves around them. Pity they are cheating themselves out meeting and interacting with many wonderful folks.

At any rate glad you both enjoyed the post.

Hi Goatldi! I was reminded just last week of the treasure of old friends and the joy of new ones. Love the poem!

And you, dear lady, I'm sure have many, many people in your life who are proud to call you their friend.

You saying you find yourself preferring the company of animals reminded me of a framed saying I used to have: "The more I see of people, the more I like goats." Wonder what ever happened to it?

Awe Mama Pea that was such a kind comment. I so enjoy blogging and the amazing folks I meet along the way.

Perhaps you will trip over your framed quote. I have one that was given to me that says "one nice lady and one old goat live here".

For some reason Geoffrey has never seen the humor in it. Eye-roll!
