This Is A Week To Be Grateful For Blessings and Prayer For Those Whose Blessings Are In Short Supply

This is the Carr Fire. The fire went from approximately 7000 to 20000 acres overnight. It is now on a collision course with Shasta Dam https://www.usbr.gov/mp/ncao/shasta-dam.html
There are a large amount of persons fighting like crazy to stop this from happening. It is also potentially headed toward Redding https://www.cityofredding.org/    there are a large contingent of folks also fighting like crazy to stop this from happening. At this point the possible cause of this fire is vehicle aka trailer. I don't know more than that. I have at least one friend who is evacuated and her elderly mother was released from the hospital at the same time. I cannot begin to imagine.

This was our first wildfire the first summer we lived here

it was much closer to us about 30 minutes as the crow flies and was almost 28000 acres in the end . This was a lightening strike fire and was just plain evil from the beginning.

This is always a potential trade off for living in the area I do. But one can be smart. Defensive space every year at least 200 feet from home and out buildings. More if you can manage. Make wise choices don't use chain saws, target shoot or use weed eaters or do anything on very hot dry days that could potentially cause a spark. Make sure there is nothing dragging from your vehicle or trailer while you are traveling that could cause a spark. And please only burn on burn days and if the burn days are revoked be safe walk away from your ego that tells I've got this because you don't.

Some folks think we are crazy living where we do . Being off grid attempting to lower our carbon footprint and do as much for ourselves as we can. But to those of us that do it couldn't be any other way. When I wake up to mornings like this

 And nights like this
Walk in 42 acres of  solace I can't imagine living anywhere else. Seeing deer, turkey, roadrunners hearing coyotes and holding a hummingbird who took a wrong turn and ended up in my greenhouse then watching it fly to the top of pine tree. Those things win out over the risk that is always there.

Life is full of risk heck getting out of bed in the morning holds the potential of tripping over the cat and breaking your neck. Make life full of calculated risk life is way too short to not take calculated chances.

I am blessed beyond measure to be able to have this surrounding me. Please send up a prayer for those around me who experiencing the unthinkable today in their lives today with this fire. May California and other states that are experiencing high wildfire rates recover and go on for the love of what it offers.

Fires are such an awful, terrifying, uncontrollable thing. Blessings to those professionals who risk their own lives to save others. Prayers and best of thoughts sent from here to those who have lost so much.

Thank you Mama Pea. Fire is unpredictable and worrisome. Thankful for these hard working men and women who make it possible to live in areas such as we do.

You have been in my thoughts often of late. I know what you mean - that trade-off. I can't say enough wonderful things about the brave people who face those fires and do everything in their power to put them out. I can't imagine a harder, more dangerous job. I am holding you (all) in my thoughts and sending rain vibes in your direction.

Thanks Susan. It is pretty amazing up here now. We are out of the line of fire. However so many aren't and this fire is just bat poop crazy.

This morning the fire is over 40,000 acres that is 12,000 plus acres more than last night at 9PM. We have 3 fatalities two fire fighters and one dozer operator. The fire is currently burning in west Redding proper after jumping the Sacramento River last night. And folks that is not a small jump. This fire has as good friend with CDF used to day "created its own weather". The winds are weird and you cannot judge conditions by any weather channel.

My BFF granddaughter is a EMT/driver for American Ambulance and is working the fire line for casualties. Her new husband with Cal Fire is working the fairground at Anderson for evacts. New wife is grateful he is in a safe place he wants to be on the line.

We have lost historical buildings and will potentially loose more before this is over. The original evacuation site has been changed to Shasta JC as the other is now in the line of fire.
The fire was still last I hear headed for Shasta Dam and after jumping the river the crews still have not been able to draw a line of restraint for this devil.

Please pray for Redding.

It's always worrisome to catch news about California's fires. I always think about you. Definitely praying for those who have to live under the shadow of this threat. I think your attitude though, is pretty amazing. If we can't find blessings then all we're left with is worry. That's no way to live no matter where a body calls home.

Thank you Leigh. Agreed on all counts. I have only lived in Shasta county six years but have met the most amazing folks here.

As always we seek our own like minded social groups. My groups are thick with folks who are resilient spinners and weavers, self sufficient homesteaders. Most seasoned with many years experience with this type of activity. Although the intensity and behavior of them is new.
So I have sat and listened to their stories in awe that nothing has gotten them off the mountain yet.
Even with that as this morning I look around me the ash of my neighbors sorrow on my deck table and truck I must be mindful and grateful.
