Bits And Pieces Yeah,Yeah,Yeah

Miss Flame is getting older but "still the baby!" And being the baby earns being tucked under Mama's wing every night on the roosting bar. Look closely hen pops out at top tail feathers at the bottom. Shows how she has grown. And when I go in each night to check on everyone if she is tucked way under and I call her name she will pop her little noggin out and peep a reply. I do believe she knows my voice now.

Just for comparison is the one above .

This is Walnetto-Farm ST Wilhelmina aka Willa. But now she has registration papers and a secret.  Stay tuned for more . . .

A volunteer under this

Each night when I water it I pinch off the older blossoms and the sweet one above popped up.

The new batch of Dinosaur Kale starts.

And this morning while fruit stand hopping I found this. One pound of Chandler walnuts new crop. I do much better with this variety as it is less acidic than the others. I can eat them raw with abandon as well in baked goods. And I love the label who knew you could go to college by "going nuts"?

I never thought of walnuts as being acidic! Of course, we have pecans so I rarely get to enjoy them any more. Love the baby chick photos; they are always so cute. And Miss Willa! Definitely a looker.

Hi Leigh
I never did either but that was the explanation I was told. I do know that other variety's I can't eat raw without leaving an abrasive almost "licking a penny" type taste on my tongue. The Chandlers are not a problem. I love pecans and because of the issue with walnuts have used them almost exclusively until now.

Glad you enjoyed Miss. Flame she is a real character! And thanks for the nice comment on my "baby girl" . I think she is something pretty special.

Aww, so sweet is your little baby Flame.

Our daughter has always hated walnuts (no other nut) and even if they are in baked goods she won't eat them because of the taste they leave in her mouth. Sounds a lot like your problem with them.

What's with Miss Willa? Is she bred?

Methinks the walnut selling people had a good idea with their label. Smart folks!

What breed of hen is she? She's really pretty. Ilike the way they listen up when you talk to them. We had a lot of chickens when I was young but don't remember them doing that. I didn't realize Walnuts could be that way. I just learn something! thanks!!

Lynne you are welcome for any nugget of information you see here. I love it that we are able to continue to learn something new daily. I was and am the “kid” who wants to know “why?”
Flame is 50% Buff Orpington (Mama Chicken is 100%)!and her Papa Mr. Paul Newman is 50% white Leghorn and 50% Wheaton. Orpington’s are often kept in small backyard flocks for having friendly dispositions. They interact well with adults and children if handled gently daily.

Thanks for the visit enjoy the day☀️

Some would say you are nuts to go to college... :) Flame is adorable! And what is this secret that you and Willa are keeping from us? I forgot to raise dinosaur kale this year and really missed it. It's on the list for next year!

Thank you! I think Flame is A+ adorable. And I think she is beginning to believe me. :-)

I have no secrets because I would spill the beans and Willa knows that. So until she shares with me I have nothing to pass on. "Listen do you want to know a secret?"

Dinosaur Kale. Wouldn't that imply that it would become extinct? I had two plants from last year that I had to finally euthanize as it would not stop producing on its own. They weren't big producers after a year plus of production and I did feel a tad poorly after the deed was done. But I started out fresh and we will see where this takes me.

Agreed that college is not for everyone. Anyway where are our trades people going to come from?

Well google is toying with my comments. I was getting notices by email again and this time two showed up in my moderation area and only one generated an email announcement. So Mama Pea and Kristina don't take it personally that I haven't acknowledged you.

Kristina I agree. Very clever of them with the label.

Mama Pea Miss. Flame is cute and bold. Today she found there was one panel she could go in and out of that leads to 42 acres of freedom. Thanks to Ari the English alerting me to it I ran ,ok I walked fast, out and snagged her. A few more pounds and she shouldn't be able to escape that way.

Willa isn't bred to my knowledge but then stranger things have happened. Patience please. Timing for everything even public announcements is everything.

Tell Chicken Mama to see if there are Chandler's available in your area.
